Liam Neeson Joins Martin Scorsese's Silence

Actor Liam Neeson takes a break from action to spread the Good News.


According to Deadline, the Taken star has boarded director Martin Scorsese's 2015 project, Silence. The new movie, which also stars Ken Watanabe (Batman Begins) and Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man), is an adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel about two Jesuit priests attempting to spread Christianity in Japan during the country's Sakoku Edict, which sought to drive out foreign influence by effectively closing off the country.


Silence won't be Neeson's first missionary role, if that is indeed the role he is set for. He also starred in The Mission, a 1986 film about Jesuit priests in South America forced to protect the natives from fellow colonists. He also previously worked with Scorsese on Gangs of New York.
