With Halloween fast approaching, we thought it would be a good time to look back at horror icon Christopher Lee’s career. The screen legend was born in London in 1922 and his glittering career has lasted nearly 70 years, with his CV boasting more than 270 screen credits. Tall, handsome and debonair, he had bit-parts in countless movies and TV shows throughout the 1950s, but it was his collaboration with Hammer that rocketed him to fame, the actor becoming synonymous with horror thanks to spellbinding performances as Dracula, The Mummy and Frankenstein’s monster.
Lee found it hard to escape the studio’s shadow throughout the 1980s and ‘90s, but in recent years his career has been rejuvenated with a new generation of director’s utilising his talents in the likes of the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings sagas (both of which we've grouped here), with the actor also forming a fruitful creative partnership with Tim Burton, even if their collaborations weren’t the director’s best. And with Lee’s Saruman about to return to screens in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, now seems as good a time as any to count down the actor’s 10 best.
