As much as I question whether Infinity should even exist as a separate mini-series, there's no denying that this book does at least one thing better than Jonathan Hickman's two Avengers tie-ins - scope. This series is better able to convey the full scale and drama of the war against the Builders. Perhaps that's to be expected when you have Jerome Opena rendering every clash along the hard-fought road to victory.
And victory is finally on the horizon in this issue. The war reached a fairly abrupt and not entirely satisfying conclusion in Avengers #21 earlier this month. Luckily, Infinity #5 takes time to examine the fallout of Thor's retaliation from other angles, showcasing one world after another rallying around the Avengers banner and overthrowing tyranny. It's a rousing display that benefits both from Hickman's grandiose writing and Opena's powerful imagery. If Infinity was never anything more than an attempt to mold the Avengers into legitimate intergalactic players, it was still worth the effort.
