Beware the Batman: "Family" Review

Full Bat-spoilers follow.


We've all heard of Batman and Robin. Well, how about Batman and Tatsu? Because that's pretty much where we're at by the end of this episode, the seventh of the first season of Beware the Batman.


And it's all telegraphed in the opening scene, as the Bat and his soon-to-be partner are fighting a group of League of Assassins ninjas. Squaring off back to back against these warriors, the pair of do-gooders face increasingly overwhelming odds, even while it's clear that a natural affinity exists between the two heroes. An affinity for… ass-kicking!


That cold open then flashes back to a "Six Hours Earlier" deal, which is always an effective suspense builder. Still, while it's become clear that Batman and Tatsu were starting to learn how to get along, I certainly didn't expect this episode to end up the way it did. After narrowly escaping the above-mentioned ninjas and their nasty arrows, Bruce actually speeds Tatsu to the Batcave, Vicki Vale style -- only instead of hitting her with Bat-gas, he takes his mask off and opens up all his secrets to her. I'm Batman indeed!
