Rooney Mara's Casting Stirs Controversy

While Disney was accused of insensitively portraying Native Americans in the 1953 Peter Pan animated movie, Warner Bros. is being accused of not representing Native Americans at all.


The Native American community recently voiced concern over Johnny Depp playing one of the most iconic American Indians in pop culture, so it should come as no surprise that the casting of Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Princess Tiger Lily in WB's Pan reboot has stirred up its own controversy. A Care2 petition, which has gained over 5,000 signatures, calls the movie studio out for whitewashing the Native American princess.
