Nintendo Suspends Swapnote Due to “Offensive Material”

Nintendo has disabled the ability for 3DS owners to send and receive Spotpass notes via Swapnote (or Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) after discovering some users have been using the service to transfer offensive material.

“Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote (known as Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) to exchange offensive material,” reads a Nintendo statement on the company’s website. “Nintendo has been investigating ways of preventing this and determined it is best to stop the SpotPass feature of Swapnote because it allows direct exchange of photos and was actively misused.”

The first of Nintendo’s Wii experiments (the second being Wii Sports Club, out next week), Wii Fit U won’t be available in stores until December. Aside from Wii Fit U, another batch of retail games, including LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, are showing up on eShop alongside two Virtual Console releases and some downloadable offerings. Ubisoft Kills Online Pass System, Effective Immediately

Ubisoft has dropped its online pass system, effective immediately. The Uplay Passport code needed to unlock the online features of the recently-released Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will now be provided free-of-charge, and Uplay Passports will no longer be a part of any future Ubisoft games.

Like similar Online Pass systems, the Uplay Passport program required players to activate a unique code only available with new copies of the game. Secondhand purchasers, or those who had borrowed the game, would be required to purchase their own Uplay Passport for an additional fee.

Player feedback, however, has seen Ubisoft now shun the scheme.

“Assassin’s Creed fans, we heard you loud and clear,” writes communications manager Gary Steinman on the Ubisoft Blog.

The Walking Dead: First Look Image from Sunday's Episode

Ah, going for a supply run on The Walking Dead... That rarely goes well, does it? It certainly was tough, to say the least, in the Season 4 premiere, what with the zombies crashing through the ceiling and all. But still, when you need supplies, you need supplies, and so on this coming Sunday's new episode of The Walking Dead, a group sets out from the prison to a local college - only to run into multiple hurdles. But we'll see if this group's situation is prefferable to what's going on back at the prison, where things are getting worse.

We've got an exclusive image for you from the next episode of The Walking Dead, "Indifference," featuring Michonne on that aforementioned supply run. It certainly looks like something or someone is giving her pause - and not in a good way.

Saved by the Bell: The Complete Collection DVD Review

Morris. Powers. Kapowski. Slater. Turtle. Spano. Belding. Legends.

Is Saved by the Bell a good show? Not really. Is it an incredibly watchable show? Hell yes. Since 1989, the story of Zack Morris and his classmates has proven to be a continually popular and shockingly iconic piece of TV history. Whether you first saw it as a kid who looked up to the characters or as an older viewer who watched it all ironically, there was something about this show that struck a chord and many of us are likely way too familiar with these episodes than we should admit.

Considering how popular Saved by the Bell has continued to be through the years, it’s surprising it took this long to get a complete series collection (in the US that is - Canada got one last year!). But yes, here it is at last, Season 1-5 of the series, in one box set. Though just how “complete” you consider this collection to be is debatable.

New Microsoft Privacy Statement Explains How Xbox One’s Kinect Collects Data

In an updated privacy statement available to view here Microsoft has detailed how the Xbox One’s Kinect will use any data it collects during play. Xbox One owners are advised details about your appearance gleaned from Kinect’s facial recognition technology will be totally private, but are also reminded not to expect any level of privacy while chatting over the service.

In order to use the camera to sign you in, Kinect “measures distances between key points on your face to create a numeric value that represents only you.” This information stays on your console and is not shared. The value itself is stored as a “very long set of numbers” and, according to Microsoft, “

George Romero Turned Down The Walking Dead

George 'Night of the Living Dead' Romero turned down the offer to direct episodes of The Walking Dead, claiming it was was more "soap opera" than zombie TV show.

“They asked me to do a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead but I didn’t want to be a part of it,” Romero told The Big Issue. “Basically it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism and I find that missing in what’s happening now.”

Romero is commonly acknowledged to be the 'godfather' of the zombie movie, ushering the horror sub genre into mainstream consciousness through his Night of the Living Dead series.

Sony Integrating PSN Into Sony Rewards

A new, PlayStation specific program is being incorporated into Sony's Rewards program that will reward players specifically for spending money on PSN games and downloads.

For every $1 spent on PSN, players will receive one point to go toward more games, PlayStation Store cash, PS Plus memberships, Sony hardware and more, according to the PlayStation blog. These points can also carry over to Sony products at online retailers such as Game Stop, Best Buy and Target.

Sony recently announced the options non-PS Plus members have on the upcoming PlayStation 4, and the options those players have once the console releases.

Free Birds Review

In one 40-second stretch of the Thanksgiving-themed animated comedy Free Birds, a Pilgrim mother calls a hungry boy “fatty,” a man named Mr. Sardine drops his bowl of tiny fishes on to a pizza and inadvertently inventing the topping, a Native American compares said sardines to smelly socks but admits they're still better than his wife's cooking, and then behind him runs another man pretending his slice of pizza is his... manhood.

The string of gags sums up the latest from Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!, Jonah Hex), another act of anthropomorphic animal antics that's more down-the-middle befuddling than uproarious or excruciatingly painful.

In Free Birds, a duo of turkeys time travel back to Plymouth Colony's first Thanksgiving in hopes of swaying them away from consuming what would become the traditional bird of choice. The movie operates with the same logic, heart, and passable animation quality as a standard Saturday morning cartoon -- which is slightly less tolerable when extended to 90 minutes. Will the wee ones laugh? Yes. Will they be aching to get the hell out of there when adorable baby turkeys run scarce and the final act runs completely dry of humor? Probably.

Why Nintendo Is Offering a Free Wii Fit U Trial

In a recent presentation to investors, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata explained why offering a month's free trial for Wii Fit U will benefit sales of both the game and the Wii U in the long run.

Any Wii owners that also own a Wii Balance Board can download a free trial of Wii Fit U if they upgrade to Nintendo's newest console. While some might question the tactic, considering Wii Sports and Wii Fit were two of last generation's best-selling games, the company has other plans.

"...Some investors and analysts may be wondering why we would ever distribute a game that is guaranteed to sell well free of charge," Iwata said during the briefing. "However, under the current circumstances in which Wii U has lost its launch-period momentum we find ourselves in a situation where it is difficult to turn the attention of those who do not actively engage with games to Wii U; we felt that it would be difficult to hope that advertising and releasing our games in a standard fashion would be sufficient to create enough buzz in society."

Rare Hasn't Been Designated a Kinect-Only Developer

It seems as if anytime Rare's name has been mentioned in an official capacity over the past five years, it's been connected to the development of a Kinect game. The various iterations of Kinect Sports have represented the bulk of its output over the past half decade, and when the developer talks about revisiting some of its classic franchises -- among them Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Banjo-Kazooie -- it talks about using Kinect to do so. Despite this, Microsoft has not pigeonholed Rare into the role of exclusively developing games for Kinect, and a more traditional game could be in its future.

Microsoft Addresses the Future of Gears of War

With Microsoft just weeks away from the launch of Xbox One, there has still been no word regarding a next-gen entry in one of the biggest Xbox-exclusive franchises, Gears of War. In an interview with IGN, Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer discussed the future of the franchise and what needs to change going forward.

"I want to find a great Gears game, and I thought we did a good job with Judgment but I don't think it hit the level of quality we saw in the previous games," Spencer said on the latest episode of Podcast Unlocked. "I think review scores showed that, sales showed that, and I really think that we need to take a step back with Epic and think about -- I don't want to call it a reboot, because it's kind of an overused term, but think about where that franchise goes and how to expand what it was."

Top Horror Games of 2013

As we look back on the past year of gaming, one of the most surprising trends is just how many terrifying survival horror games have been released in 2013. AAA blockbusters, updated ports of previous gems, and indie games on iOS have all helped make this year brimming with tense, innovative, and truly horrifying experiences. Since we’re in the midst of the season of the witch, we thought it might be a good idea to reflect on those games that made us afraid of the things that go bump in the night, and even some of those that made us scream for all of the wrong reasons.

Revolution: "Dead Man Walking" Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

I need to keep this review short, so let's get right to it!

Monroe isn't dead, right? He can't be. If he was, it would feel really anticlimactic and like a wasted opportunity, given how much his relationships are shifting with everyone else. And if he was to die, they'd treat it with more weight than we got - it would truly be the end of the episode or we'd see much more of the fallout. So I assume he'll be back, which takes away from a lot of how things played out here.

However, there was a lot of good material involving him before that. Miles getting just exasperated more than anything at seeing a dead Patriot Monroe killed was funny and the flashbacks did a good job of showing the dramatically different dynamic these two once had - even though it did involve Monroe just completely snapping and becoming a cold-hearted thief and murderer in the wake of losing the woman he loved and their child. I also want to note how good David Lyons was in this episode and this season in general, as he seems to really be finding his groove with this far more interesting incarnation of Monroe. The inclusion of Neville in the flashbacks, however brief, was good to see as well - some connective tissue while Neville's storyline is so separate from everyone else.

You can record, stream, or share any game you want, but certain sections may be off limits. “Developers can select the area of restriction, and what will be restricted depending on game titles,” reads the PlayStation Blog. “In these cases, recording will be temporarily suspended during the scene.”

South Park RPG Delayed Again; First Gameplay Footage Revealed

In a move that shouldn't surprise anyone who knows how up-to-the-last-second South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker work, Obsidian Entertainment's South Park: The Stick of Truth role-playing game has been delayed again. "We always wanted the game to feel like you're actually in an episode of South Park," said Stone and Parker. "Getting the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and we're excited to say it's taken way longer than we thought it would."

Daniel Radcliffe Talks Frankenstein and Igor

Daniel Radcliffe recently visited IGN's London office to discuss his new movie Kill Your Darlings - which is currently on limited release in the US and hits UK screens on December 6.

And while chatting with the Harry Potter star, the conversation turned to Frankenstein, the forthcoming re-imagining of Mary Shelly's tale in which Radcliffe plays Igor opposite James McAvoy's Victor Von Frankenstein.

McAvoy recently told us that the film is a "dark adventure" that revolves around the friendship between the two characters, and Radcliffe elaborated in that point, discussing Victor and Igor's relationship, giving us a few details about the film's plot, and revealing that he will indeed have a hunchback.

Death and Consequences in A Link Between Worlds

A Link Between Worlds isn’t afraid to turn up the heat. For a Dark Souls fanatic like myself, this is a very, very good thing.

In a brief demo, fellow IGN editor Jose Otero and I saw four dungeons from Link’s upcoming adventure, two of which we went hands-on with. We were burned, beaten, and robbed of both time and money, but progress never felt unobtainable.

The first two dungeons – which we were told are optional – test traditional platforming skills. One took place in an expansive, fiery cavern called Death Mountain. You have to fall from high to low platforms that shift, pause, and cross paths. One misstep sends you into the lava below. Because the distance between them is so great, turning up the 3DS’ slider can help you better judge your timings.

Kerbal Space Program Heading to Schools

A select number of schools will soon have their students playing Kerbal Space Program thanks to TeacherGaming, the same company responsible for bringing Minecraft into the classroom.

PCGamesN reports the project was recently unveiled as KerbalEdu, a tentative name that matches the one used for Minecraft's educational version, MinecraftEdu. That game is offered to schools at a discounted rate (up to 50% off) and is lightly modified to make it more useful in a school setting. Similar work will be done to make Kerbal Space Program a better fit for schools, but when KerbalEdu first launches in about 50 schools in mid-November, it will essentially be the same exact game that's currently available.

The Tomorrow People: “Kill or Be Killed” Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

The Tomorrow People follows up last week’s promising episode with another entertaining hour. Unfortunately that’s almost entirely due to the shot in the arm provided by guest star Jason Dohring, who probably won’t return after tonight. There were still good stories here as we got John’s origin story, but the dynamic presence of Dohring only highlighted how lifeless the show can be.

As for the overall plot of the series this was John’s hour, showing how he jumped from the frying pan of an awful foster home to the fire of Ultra at a very young age and ending with the reveal that McCrane wasn’t the only Tomorrow Person who had developed the ability to kill. It would have been more effective to actually show McCrane doing some evil deeds instead of having everybody talk about how bad he was, so it’s a testament to how good Dohring is that he was able to come across as a worthy bad guy with so little to do on screen. Still, it provided an opportunity for John’s past to come back up and give us more than just hints that things were tough for him. Now we’ve got the circumstances of his joining and leaving Ultra, and we also know that with his ability to kill he and Price hold one of the most interesting secrets on the show.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #27 Review

Shredder attempts to consolidate his power in this issue, calling a meeting of every gang in New York (including cute cameos from the likes of Heisenberg, Punk Storm and Forge, and the Coney Island Warriors) and showing off just how awesome the Foot Clan is. But the Turtles and Old Hob have a thing or two to say about this display of power, and it's not long before total chaos breaks out. The result is yet another memorable chapter in this excellent storyline.

Ultimate Comics: Cataclysm #0.1 Review

cataclysm 0.1 Does Cataclysm actually need a primer issue? Ignoring the fact that the conflict in this mini-series is about as simple and straightforward as they come, the only direct prelude material has been the recently concluded Hunger mini-series. But regardless of necessity, Marvel has released Cataclysm #0.1 in advance of the main series. And far more than just catching new readers up to speed, it provides a sobering perspective of the threat the Ultimate heroes face from Galactus as well as a heartwarming tale of a robot who wants to learn how to feel love.

The Fox #1 Review

the-fox-5-issue-mini-series-subscription-7-special-collector-covers-3 If you are gonna launch a new comic series and really grab new readers, having top talent and a fun premise is a great way to go. The Fox does those things, and takes the extra precaution of having a villain named Madame Satan who barfs up tentacles at our hero when he attempts to foil her plans to setup a new – presumably evil – social media site. If that sounds like the kind of thing you want in your comic books, then do yourself a favor and pick up The Fox. It's freaking great, people.

Guardians of the Galaxy #8 Review

guardians of the galaxy 08 Since its relaunch, Guardians of the Galaxy has been consistently good. The characters are fun, the action is great and the stakes are high. This issue sees the group attempting to save Earth from the onslaught of Thanos' forces. It's the kind of big, space adventure stuff we have come to love in this series. This my not be the best issue of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it's a great time and filled with some sweet looking spaceships.

Punisher: Trial of the Punisher #2 Review

trial of the punisher 02 We all love it when a plan comes together, but sometimes it's nice when there's a bit more to the plan. For instance, Punisher: Trial of the Punisher #2 reveals Frank's master plan and, if you read the first issue, you can probably guess what it is. It makes sense, sure, but I can't be the only one hoping there was a little bit more to it. Things happen so fast and everything falls into place so easily in those last few pages that it's a almost a letdown. Don't get me wrong, this is still a good comic book, but it could have been a great comic.

ASHandAOD01CovTemplesmith It may say “#1” on the cover, but this is really the fourth installment of the Evil Dead series. Ash and The Army of Darkness picks up exactly were Army of Darkness leaves off. In fact, the first 5 or 6 pages are basically an adaptation of the end of the movie. What that means, essentially, is that fans of the Army of Darkness film will love this comic, but newcomers need not apply. I'm a long time Army of Darkness fan, so I thought this was crazy good. Other, less passionate fans, might not agree.

King Conan: Hour of the Dragon #6 Review

22196 Dark Horse puts a lot of really great Conan comics. There's not a bad one in the bunch, but the King Conan series is the crown jewel, the best of the best. This series, structured as a a collection of mini series, has been great from the get go. The Hour of the Dragon arc is an adaptation of the first half of Robert E. Howard's only Conan novel. It's well written, wonderfully paced and filled with gorgeous art. Hail to the king, baby.

Captain Midnight #4 Review

23847 This title is really starting to hit its groove. Without a doubt, this is the best issue of Captain Midnight so far, and it shows tons of promise for the future. It's funny, exciting and, at times, absolutely absurd, but in a good way. Part Captain America, part Rocketeer and part Nazi Puncher (not the name of an actual hero, but it should be), this is a comic for people who lovea bit of classic flair to their superheroes. With each new issue, Captain Midnight seems to get better and better.

Saga #15 Review

SAGA-15 I will admit that the last few issues have been a tad slow, but Saga #15 snaps everything back into place. In fact, this issue has a little bit of everything I love about Saga, including fantastical creatures, relationship drama, and crude sexual behavior. Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples work as one to push Saga to new heights, letting the beautiful art and snappy dialogue take you away on a perverted journey featuring some of the best characters you’re likely to find in a comic book.

Avengers #22 Review

avengers 22 With the events of Infinity #5 pointing all major players at Earth, Avengers #22 (which should be read after Infinity #5) is the expected “calm before the storm” issue. We see a new romantic couple emerge, hear the battle plan, and get a couple inspiring talks from the big-name Avengers. There are a couple cool moments to enjoy in this issue, but it’s not the most exciting one. It will make for a nice segue chapter in the Infinity collection that I imagine will include all of these tie-in issues with the main event. For now, all it does is make the wait for the next issue of Avengers that much more unbearable.

Aquaman Annual #1 Review

AQ_AN_1_244n2oqruh_ Aquaman Annual #1 tells a story completely isolated from what’s happening in the main Aquaman series. It features Aquaman joining back up with the Others for an impromptu mission to recover a stolen Atlantean artifact. Any excuse to see the Others team up again is a good one, yet writer John Ostrander handles the story with too much obvious dialogue and a lack of unpredictable twists. It’s not a bad story by any means, but the characters have stiff speaking patterns and the plot is crystal clear from start to finish with none of the mystery and intensity that make the Others so exciting to read.

Swamp Thing Annual #2 Review

SWAMP_TH_ANN_2_quyap18pok_ Charles Soule is on fire with his Swamp Thing run and with this oversized issue he creates a whole new layer to the already expansive mythology of the Green. He uses every single panel of every single page to add more depth to the Green and more character to Alec Holland. With Javier Pina on art providing one breathtakingly beautiful piece of imagery after another, Swamp Thing Annual #2 becomes a lesson in how to do a comic book right. This issue does cost $4.99 for its extra pages, but it’s so good I would have paid double.

Powerpuff Girls #2 Review

tumblr_mv8l0aJuSi1rojbapo1_1280 I’m not going to lie, the first issue of this newly launched Powerpuff Girls series totally depressed me. Mojo Jojo has decided he wants to take Antidote X to revert back to a normal monkey so he will no longer remember how badly he’s been beaten by the Powerpuff Girls. That’s some heavy stuff for IDW to produce for children, and this issue only gets heavier when Mojo pretty much gets his last rights and then the gas chamber. Artist/writer Troy Little does a near-perfect job with the art and characterization, but all of this issue’s fun moments are tinged with an unexpected existential sadness. Does that make it a bad comic book? Surprisingly, no.

Nightwing Annual #1 Review

Nightwing_ann_1_2qhbe8mqoj_ Nightwing Annual #1 is as much a Batgirl story as it is a Nightwing one. But that's a good thing. Their shared history has been rendered very murky thanks to the New 52, and any issue devoted to fleshing out the Dick/Barabara relationship is a welcome one. This issue certainly has its flaws, but it's worth a read for fans of the characters who crave a relatively lighter tale for a change.

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up Special #1 Review

ssm team up special 01 With Superior Spider-Man Team-Up Special #1, the “Arms of the Octopus” crossover reaches its conclusion. The good news is that this crossover remains consistently entertaining to the end. While the art is a bit weaker than it was in the previous two chapters, writer Mike Costa is able to deliver a more action-packed and equally charming finale to the story.

Fittingly, Spider-Man himself takes center stage a bit more in this issue. Costa's depiction of Spidey stands out because he's able to make Otto more likable than he usually is while still reflecting his arrogant haughty nature. There's a sense that Otto legitimately respects his young mutant allies and cares about their well-being. The X-Men have a long, successful history of crossoing over with Spider-Man, and this storyline continues the trend.

Always Sunny: "The Gang...Lethal Weapon 6" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...

Chief Lazarus has returned from the grave, Riggs is getting married to Murtaugh's Rianne, and the entire police precinct is infested with some unknown biting bug from China. It's LETHAL WEAPON 6 time!

Right off the bat, I do have to say that I feel bad for those of you who, like the young Dot Com girl in the episode, haven't seen Lethal Weapon 1 and 2. Parts 3 and 4 are optional add-ons, but not necessary for the full experience. And by the "full experience" I mean being able to appreciate The Gang's abysmal, shoddy Lethal Weapon home movies in their entirety. Sure, anyone can laugh at awful action movie dialogue, inept acting, and bad editing, but I mourn those who will watch "The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6" and not understand the whole parody. The actual "Lethal Weapon"ness of it all. The things that are only specifically funny if you've seen the original 1987 Mel Gibson/Danny Glover/Shane Black/Richard Donner "Christmas in LA" cop flick.

Football Manager 2014 Review

The FM series is a strange beast, in that without ever actually having any gameplay in a traditional sense, it manages to get under my skin like few other sports games can. True to form, albeit with refinement rather than the wholesale changes we saw last year, Football Manager 2014 had me animated and exhilarated. I shouted at my screen, swore at my defence, rued chances missed, and celebrated last-minute winners almost as passionately as I do with the real sport.

As always, FM allows you to take the helm of any football club in the world, with nothing but your wits, people skills and tactical knowledge to lead them to glory. The standard Career is the deepest it’s ever been, allowing you to tinker with the tiniest facets of your club, and thanks to its absorbing nature I spent much time here. Once again, the Inbox acts as the hub of your club, but minor enhancements have been employed: Categories are now handily colour coded, certain types of information are grouped together in one post where possible, while the layouts of more detailed screens are cleaner and easier to read.

Ultimate Comics X-Men #33 Review

ultimate xmen 33 Like I said about Ultimate Comics Spider-Man last week, I just don’t know how to feel about this “final” issue of Ultimate Comics X-Men because I don’t know what awaits on the other side of Cataclysm. As an end chapter to Brian Wood’s story, it is fitting and satisfying in every way -- except for Jean Grey, but I’ll get to that in a moment. Kitty Pryde’s goal to have a peaceful Utopia was long and painful, and now that all rests on her final battle against Jean. However, the best part of this issue is not the fight, but the retrospective Wood gives on just how far the mutants have come to get where they are today.

Green Lantern Annual #2 Review

GL_ANN_2_CVR_haxxglpyy0_ The final oversized chapter of Lights Out is a must-read for any Green Lantern fan. Not only does it resolve the conflict involving Relic and the light reservoir, it drastically alters the status quo of the Green Lantern franchise, setting the direction for all of the titles going forward from here. While Relic never quite redeems himself for being an underdeveloped villain, it was nonetheless thrilling watching Hal Jordan lead the other Lanterns in an emotional final charge.

Action Comics Annual #2 Review

ACTION_ANNUAL_2_od8dg2jv0s_ For a story titled "Krypton Returns," you definitely get what the title implies. Through some sort of time-travel hijinks, H’el has restored Krypton and remade it in his horrific image. But this has created a “temporal tsunami” that is ripping the universe apart, so Superman must join up with Supergirl and Superboy to fix it. It’s actually not a bad premise, but it’s presented with such little tension, humor, or finesse that I can’t recommend spending $4.99 on such a boring and bloated read.

Captain America: Living Legend #2 Review

cap living legend 02 It's never good when a series loses its artist after one issue, especially when that artist is as high-profile as Adi Granov. But the good news with Captain America: Living Legend is, not only does the book weather Granov's departure, it's actually better off for it. This is still a pretty basic, straightforward Cap tale, but the visual quality has improved in the second issue.

All credit goes to Agustin Alessio. This painter recently distinguished himself on Infinity: Against the Tide. Alessio's style is not dissimilar from Granov's in the first place, and he does a great job of delivering an issue that falls as close in line with the first as possible. Where this issue improves is in the general level of storytelling. Granov's figures can often appear stiff and lifeless, as is often the case with painted sequential art. Alessio manages to inject more life into his figures, enough so that they emote and interact without too much Uncanny Valley eerie-ness dragging down the book.

Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #1 Review

FEVIL_ARGUS_Cv1_ds It speaks to how well Forever Evil is unfolding that DC is launching a third tie-in mini-series and I still look forward to it with some anticipation. A.R.G.U.S. certainly has its niche carved out, as it's one of the only tie-ins to focus on heroes in this increasingly villainous storyline. It was worrisome to see that the originally solicited creative team was replaced by a new team. But at least on the writing end, A.R.G.U.S. is in fine hands with Sterling Gates.

Valhalla Knights 3 Review

The Valhalla Knights series never really fared well in the past. The first two games (on the PSP) were mediocre at best, while the lackluster Eldar Saga on the Wii won few fans. Valhalla Knights 3, in turn, never quite steps off of the shoddy foundation laid down by its predecessors. It offers some clear improvements, including a combat system that allows for seven player characters compared to the single-party systems of the past, but its good qualities are frequently stunted by dull quests, scummy dating mechanics and a general lack of polish that squander much of its potential.

In the least, however, it gets off to a good start with a decent character builder that offers a nice assortment of races, classes, and visual customization options that only grow deeper the longer you play. The initial six class choices expand to 20, while the four starting races are eventually bumped by their own additions. Experimenting with classes and skills is one of VK 3’s greatest joys. The depth of its options left me eager to level up and unlock new skills to further customize my character. These skills offer bountiful opportunities to fashion a character truly reflective of your personal style.

Deus Ex, Thief Developer Reportedly Cancels New Game

A project in the works at Eidos Montreal, the developer of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the upcoming Thief reboot, has reportedly canceled a project it had in the works.

Kotaku reports that anonymous sources have indicated the game in question is neither Thief nor a follow-up to Human Revolution. Details on the game were not forthcoming, although two sources suggested the game had some connection to the Japan branch of parent company Square Enix. Another said the game involved a new IP.

Back in July, the former head and founder of the studio, Stephane D'Astous resigned, citing issues with management. "Since last year's financial short-coming performance of Square Enix Europe, we (HQ London and GM Eidos-Montreal) have had growing and divergent opinions on what needed to be done to correct the situation," he said at the time. "The lack of leadership, lack of courage and the lack of communication were so evident, that I wasn't able to conduct my job correctly. I realized that our differences were irreconcilable, and that the best decision was unfortunately to part ways."

Diabetes Management Kickstarter Campaign Begins

The Magi and The Sleeping Star is a Kickstarter campaign with a cause. In this fantasy adventure game by Game Equals Life, your hero will battle against ancient kings and robots, as well as a very real-word problem, type 1 diabetes.

Developer Adam Grantham is a game designer who has lived with type 1 diabetes for over 19 years. He's always wanted to make a game that will help people better understand the disease, which is how he thought up the idea for The Magi and The Sleeping Star. If the game is funded, not only will it help people to learn about diabetes, but kids who have been newly diagnosed will finally have a hero to look up to.

"The Magi and The Sleeping Star is unlike any health game before," explains Grantham on the Kickstarter page. "Rather than coming from the realms of medical research and academia, it comes straight from the game industry. I knew from the beginning that if the game wasn't fun, it wasn't going to be teaching anyone anything. So we designed a core game that was strong enough to stand alone as an exciting, evocative adventure."

Last Vegas Review

The new comedy Last Vegas follows four lifelong pals who reunite in Sin City when the leader of the pack decides to finally get married at the ripe old age of 70.

Billy (Michael Douglas), Paddy (Robert De Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman), and Sam (Kevin Kline) have known each other since their childhood together in 1950s Flatbush. Billy and Paddy have had a falling out in recent years after Billy never came to the funeral of Paddy's wife, a girl they both loved in their youth. Now Billy's getting married to a woman in her early 30s and it's up to Archie and Sam to make sure "The Flatbush Four" can stick together for Billy's weekend bachelor party in Vegas.

Paddy's resentment towards Billy only continues after they both meet an aging lounge singer (Mary Steenburgen) who could either force Billy to wise up and marry someone his own age or help Paddy finally pull himself out of the slump he's been in since his wife died. All this plays out as these proverbial fish out of water deal with the craziness Vegas has to offer four formidable senior citizens.

The Sandman: Overture #1 Review

There is no doubt that Sandman's place in the history of the comic book medium is secure. The original run is a true masterclass in storytelling - a brilliant mythology that, you could argue, has yet to be rivaled in modern comics. Given the story's weight and influence, it is not surprising that most of us were incredibly excited at the announcement of Sandman Overture, a prequel to the original series. The first issue is here, in our eager hands, and the good news is it's pretty damn good and easily the best looking comic you are likely to pick up. It ain't perfect, but it's hard to not get excited about new Sandman written by Neil Gaiman.

The absolute best thing about this comic, the thing that makes that horribly inflated price tag easier to swallow, is the stunning artwork of J.H. Williams III. Every single page of this issue is a work of art, the kind of stuff that makes you want to own the original page and hang it on your wall. It's gorgeous from start to finish. Williams spreads out the pages, crafting one double-page spread after another. The story weaves into the panel layouts, controlling and moving the page, directing your gaze with expert precision. It's truly beautiful.

Infinity #5 Review

infinity 05 As much as I question whether Infinity should even exist as a separate mini-series, there's no denying that this book does at least one thing better than Jonathan Hickman's two Avengers tie-ins - scope. This series is better able to convey the full scale and drama of the war against the Builders. Perhaps that's to be expected when you have Jerome Opena rendering every clash along the hard-fought road to victory.

And victory is finally on the horizon in this issue. The war reached a fairly abrupt and not entirely satisfying conclusion in Avengers #21 earlier this month. Luckily, Infinity #5 takes time to examine the fallout of Thor's retaliation from other angles, showcasing one world after another rallying around the Avengers banner and overthrowing tyranny. It's a rousing display that benefits both from Hickman's grandiose writing and Opena's powerful imagery. If Infinity was never anything more than an attempt to mold the Avengers into legitimate intergalactic players, it was still worth the effort.

Taylor-Johnson Locks in Quicksilver

The long-rumored Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been confirmed as Quicksilver in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Wrap reports that the Kick-Ass star has worked out his schedule and closed his deal with Marvel to play Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. the speedster Quicksilver in Marvel’s Avengers sequel.

Of course, Latino Review reported the casting earlier this month, and we’d been hearing chatter about it since the summer from The Wrap. But the site says Taylor-Johnson just closed his deal today. The reason for the delay? Age of Ultron’s shooting schedule conflicts with the publicity tour for the Godzilla reboot, which the actor also stars in. But those pesky details have apparently been smoothed over now. (Hey, that’s what the red-eye is for, Aaron.)

Until then, Teller, who will next be seen in That Awkward Moment alongside Jordan and Zac Efron, recently dropped a hint that he is indeed in the running for a part in the film. However, he noted, it could also conflict with his shooting schedule for the next Divergent movie, Insurgent.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom #2 Review

battle of the atom 02 The weekly schedule for Battle of the Atom might have proven to be the undoing of this particular event. The finale issue is a bizarre hodgepodge of creators rather than the Brian Bendis/Frank Cho tag-team combo that was solicited. Bendis himself only writes one of the many epilogue sequences in this issue, with Jason Aaron instead stepping up to pen most of the script. One can only imagine the last-minute editorial changes and art delays that necessitated such a dramatic switch. Readers should probably count themselves lucky the final product is only flawed rather than downright bad.

Damian: Son of Batman #1 Review

Damian: Son of Batman is a strange comic. Despite ostensibly being a sort of "What If?" extension of Grant Morrison's Batman run, it doesn't mesh with Morrison's work in terms of continuity or in Damian's characterization. The only way this story makes any sort of sense is if you ignore everything that happened after the initial Batman & Son storyline. There's no Doctor Hurt or Black Glove, no Batman Incorporated or Leviathan, and Damian is still as wooden a character as he was in the beginning. Pretending that this book was published in 2007 gives it more context to operate from, but it still doesn't explain why you'd want to read such a story now.

Rather than picking up where a "Damian becomes Batman" story would logically begin, with Damian surviving the events of Batman Incorporated #8 and Batman dying in his place, writer/artist Andy Kubert weaves a completely isolated tale where Damian is a teenage Robin alongside a Batman whose identity is unclear up through the end of this issue. Batman's surprisingly underwhelming death provides the spark for Damian to assume the mantle himself. But as we saw in Batman #666 all those years ago, he has a few fundamental weaknesses that make him a very poor fit for the mantle.

PS4 Does Not Support External Hard Drives

PlayStation 4 will not allow users to use external hard drives, according to a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog. Storage on PS4s will be limited to the next-gen machine's 500GB. Even replacing the internal hard drive limits space -- installing another 9.5mm SATA II HDD is possible, but only so long as its space does not exceed 160GB.

We've contacted Sony about how this will affect the transfer of data between PlayStation 4 systems.

For more recent news on PS4's possibilities, check out what you can do without paying for PlayStation Plus, and which of your existing PS3 peripherals are compatible with PS4.

What Can You Do On PS4 Without PS Plus?

With the launch of the PlayStation 4 fast-approaching, Sony recently answered a slew of questions, including those dealing with non-PlayStation Plus members.

There are already a number of free-to-play titles confirmed for the PS4. However, PS Plus won't be necessary to access all of them: titles such as Blacklight Retribution, DC Universe Online and War Frame will be open to players without Sony's premium membership, according to the PlayStation Blog.

Additionally, you'll be able to log into multiplayer modes on a PS4 console if it is designated as "Primary" by someone who does have PS Plus. For instance, if a friend or housemate has the service, but you don't, you'll be able to access titles that were otherwise barred, if you have that person's permission.

Some AC4 Single Player Content Requires Online Pass

This generation is no stranger to online passes for multiplayer access and content, but it turns out that some of the single player options in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag are gated with Ubisoft's Uplay Passport.

In Black Flag, players can board enemy ships instead of destroying them. For players with new copies of the game, the option is available to then add said ships to your fleet; these vessels can then be commanded much like the assassin recruits introduced in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. However, if you're playing a used or borrowed copy of AC IV, you'll need to buy a Uplay Passport to unlock this option, Game Informer reports.

Nearly four years ago, we published our Sandman Retrospective to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Neil Gaiman's horror/fantasy saga and the release of the Absolute Death hardcover. But now, with Gaiman revisiting the world of Sandman with his prequel series, Overture, we figures this was a perfect chance to republish that feature (with a few minor updates).

In The Sandman Retrospective, we examine many facets of the series, from the connections between Morpheus of The Dreaming and the other heroes called Sandman to the evolution of the series over the course of its seven-year lifespan. While this feature discusses various plot points from Sandman, we've tried to keep major spoilers to a minimum. Strange as it may sound to fans, there are many readers out there who still haven't experienced the world of Sandman. With any luck, this feature might just convert a few.

Warning: ALL of the spoilers for last week's Walking Dead episode apply - so if you haven't seen it head out now! Come back and play with us once you're caught up! Also, we'll be touching on a storyline from the comic, so, if you haven't read and don't want to know anything, again, head out. We'll see you next time!

The conclusion of this Sunday's Walking Dead episode, "Isolation," brought with it a big reveal in the form of Carol's confession. Perhaps you'd already pegged Carol as the guilty burner of bodies. I confess that I hadn't until that tension-filled moment with Tyreese. Either way, the cold-blooded murder, even if it was in the name of protecting the community, was quite a turn for that character. At its core, the episode was about how far the group would go to keep that prison community going. Rick was called upon to put down his farmer's hat and once again take on the role of sheriff, leader, and keeper of the peace. Hershel risked his life in the hopes that he could save others. Beth and Maggie put their emotions aside in order to do their jobs, their duty to the whole. Aaaaand Carol committed a double homicide in the hopes of preventing a plague.

Online Passes 'Unlikely' for PS4 Games

Sony has clarified the future of Online Passes on PlayStation 4. In a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog, the company said, "First-party titles on PS4 (titles developed by Sony Computer Entertainment) will not use an Online Pass program."

This isn't to say other developers won't take advantage them, however, although Sony isn't expecting the Online Pass to maintain its popularity on next-gen consoles. "When it comes to third-party titles, PlayStation won’t dictate the strategy of publishers concerning Online Pass programs. However, most third parties have phased out the use of Online Pass systems, so they’re unlikely to appear on PS4."

Christopher Lee's Top 10 Movies

With Halloween fast approaching, we thought it would be a good time to look back at horror icon Christopher Lee’s career. The screen legend was born in London in 1922 and his glittering career has lasted nearly 70 years, with his CV boasting more than 270 screen credits. Tall, handsome and debonair, he had bit-parts in countless movies and TV shows throughout the 1950s, but it was his collaboration with Hammer that rocketed him to fame, the actor becoming synonymous with horror thanks to spellbinding performances as Dracula, The Mummy and Frankenstein’s monster.

Lee found it hard to escape the studio’s shadow throughout the 1980s and ‘90s, but in recent years his career has been rejuvenated with a new generation of director’s utilising his talents in the likes of the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings sagas (both of which we've grouped here), with the actor also forming a fruitful creative partnership with Tim Burton, even if their collaborations weren’t the director’s best. And with Lee’s Saruman about to return to screens in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, now seems as good a time as any to count down the actor’s 10 best.

Mobile Gamer Sets A Guinness World Record

Not only did thousands of gamers compete in Kiip's first ever Mobile Gaming Championship, but one lucky girl walked away with a Guinness World Record.

“There are console and PC gaming tournaments, but no one has created a highly competitive experience for mobile – until now,” said Kiip's CEO Brian Wong before the tournament began.

In an effort to find the world's best mobile gamers, Alayna Felton, 21, beat out thousands of competitors and earned the Guinness World Record for Longest Distance Run in Into the Dead after demolishing the mobile title with her official score of 32,858. The previous high score was 23,800.

Kiip's Mobile Gaming Championship event was held over the October 11-13 weekend. Throughout the online tournament, gamers tried to earn the highest score possible in Into the Dead. More than 870 hours of gameplay were clocked during the event and players ran 47,677,346 total meters.

The 10 Most Memorable Deus Ex Characters

The Deus Ex universe may be built upon conspiracies, but behind every decision is a person (or a computer, or a cabal... ) pulling the strings.

Gameplay and level design often get all the praise when talking about Deus Ex, so we decided to shine some light on the characters that make all the stealth, espionage, and silent takedowns so interesting.

Jensen is the protagonist of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. His DNA holds the secrets to safe augmentation, making him a pivotal character in the Deus Ex universe.

In Human Revolution, augmented people require doses of Neuropozyne – a drug that essentially stops the body from rejecting mechanical upgrades. Jensen’s body adapts to the technology on its own. Experimental testing on him during childhood created the tolerance in the first place.

Steam Passes 65 Million Users

Valve has announced that Steam now has more than 65 million accounts. The company notes a “30% growth in active accounts during the trailing 12 months on Steam,” which now offers more than 3,000 games that include support for PC, Mac and Linux.

“The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user’s experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience,” said Valve co-founder Gabe Newell. “As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta.”

PlanetSide 2 Coming to PS4 in Early 2014

Sony has announced that PlanetSide 2 will arrive on PlayStation 4 in early 2014.

In a video interview with Bloomberg, Sony Online chief John Smedley gave us some insight into when the online shooter MMO will arrive on PS4.

"We’re helping the Sony PlayStation 4 launch on November 15

by releasing DC Universe Online at launch, and we’re following up that early next year with our next game, Planetside 2, on PS4," he said.

Sony first announced that PlanetSide 2 would be making the jump to PS4 alongside DC Universe Online back in June. Since then we've had dribs and drabs of information come out, including the fact that PS4 players won't be able to play with their PC brethren, but you won't need a PS Plus subscription to play either.

Joel McHale Talks The Soup Investigates

Joel McHale is not content with one job or even two. No, the host of The Soup and the star of Community – who also performs standup and appears in films – is now hosting E!’s new spinoff, The Soup Investigates.

On my recent set visit to Community (more on that when the show returns to NBC in January!), I asked McHale about The Soup Investigates. Explained McHale, “It's a show that's now on after The Soup, which you should watch at 10:30pm Wednesdays on E! - 9:30 central. You know how The Daily Show has correspondents that go out

, or like Bryant Gumbel Real Sports? It's that, but for entertainment.”

McHale recalled how on the most recent episode, “We found a guy who makes his own duck calls that does not have a reality show and then took a reporter duck hunting. Then we explored why women dress up like sluts for Halloween and should selfies stop being taken - and I think so. There's a terrific bullpen of talent and I hope the show keeps going. They've ordered six
