Rush Review

It may be one of the most exhilarating sports on the planet, with drivers risking life and limb as they speed around race courses in some of the world’s most glamorous locations, but Formula 1 has as-yet failed to make its mark on the world of film.


Brilliant 2010 documentary Senna aside, the only other entry of note has been John Frankenheimer’s 1966 effort Grand Prix, which starred James Garner as an American racer, and was as exciting on the track as it was dull off it.


Rush changes all of that, however, with the tale of the sport’s thrilling 1976 season a hugely entertaining character study that also manages to capture the drama and excitement of F1 racing.


Daniel Bruhl plays Niki Lauda, Ferrari’s ruthless Austrian driver whose precise and methodical approach to the sport and attention to detail when it came to his car saw him win the championship in 1975.
