Warning: full episode spoilers follow.
Few things are more generic than a villain who acts like a villain for no other reason than because that's who they are and that's what's expected of them. Unfortunately, that tends to crop up a lot in superhero storytelling. Not every character can be Magneto or Lex Luthor, but it's still reasonable to expect any villain to have depth and motivations enough to propel an interesting conflict between good and evil.
That's not something Avengers Assemble delivered in its first episode back from a brief hiatus. There was plenty of potential in the idea of the Avengers clashing with Attuma and his Atlantean army in the flooded streets of Manhattan. But that potential was pretty well wasted in what was easily the most generic and straightforward installment of the series so far.
