Wolverine Annual #1 Review

STK647136 As Marvel has made sure we all know, Wolverine will be dying soon. But before that can happen, all accounts have to be settled. This annual issue offers one last adventure starring Wolverine and his former teen sidekick, Jubilee. The two start out trying to have a nice, simple camping trip, but it quickly goes awry as all such things do in the Marvel Universe.


This issue doesn't feature regular Wolverine writer Paul Cornell, but rather The Daily Show's Elliot Kalan and artist Jonathan Marks. Kalan obviously knows his Wolverine history as he dives into the Wolverine/Jubilee relationship and the contrast between the past and present. The script does suffer in spots from a wonky, inconsistent tone. The dialogue between the two becomes a little banter-y given the heavy subject matter. But Kalan does capitalize on the enduring bond between the two and gives readers the sense that Logan is passing the torch to a former pupil who's now all grown up.
