New Customization Options Coming to PS Vita

Today, at Sony’s pre-TGS press conference in Japan, PlayStation Vita’s new firmware – update 3.30 – was briefly discussed. While we don’t know the ins-and-outs of what will be include with the entire update, we do have a glimpse into one key feature: the ability to use custom themes.


Those who have a PlayStation 3 are already familiar with themes, which allow players to customize their PS3’s XMB with specialized background imagery and icons. Vita’s custom themes are essentially identical: they’ll be able to support unified background images and icons of their own.


The update, which doesn’t have a release date as of yet and has only been discussed for the Japanese market as of now, will initially support themes for four popular Vita games: Freedom Wars, Danganronpa: Another Episode, Phantasy Star Nova, and Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines.
