The Alienware Alpha is taking a serious shot at putting Steam on your TV, and it's doing it without Valve's SteamOS. We last saw it at E3, where Alienware was pivoting to release the ultra-compact small form factor PC not as a Steam machine, but as a Windows-based living room PC that ships with an Xbox 360 controller.
The focus here isn't on high-end hardware, but on access to games, specifically Steam games. The Alienware Alpha wants to be the machine that brings the Steam summer sale into the living room. The mountains of great, affordable games on demand through Steam are the service's most overlooked benefit. If a piece of hardware could get those games onto your TV, wouldn’t the PC gaming world be a better place? That's where the Alpha comes in.
