Spoilers for AMC's Mad Men all the way up through the first half of Season 7 (which ended on May 25th)...
Mad Men was always a great series, but somewhere around the end of Season 3 it became appointment television. All of a sudden, an episode of Mad Men could frequently be spoiled for you. Bigger, more abrupt things started happening. Events that created more of an online buzz and got people tweeting along with episodes.
The end of Season 3 ended with Don, Peggy, Pete, Harry, and Joan secretly raiding the offices of Puttnam, Powell, and Lowe for supplies and information to use for their new firm. A far cry from the Season 1 finale which featured Don feeling twinges of loss while looking at family pictures on a Kodak carousel slide projector. The show that had always known for boozing, smoking, womanizing, and dark poignancy had taken a bit of a leap, stakes-wise.
