Google Shows Off Android Wear at I/O

At Google I/O, we got a better look at Android Wear, the new platform that brings the operating system -- or rather, a tailored version of it -- to wearable devices. While we already knew that painless communication between devices was key to Google's strategy to court both developers and consumers, we learned a few new things today about how the coming generation of Android Wear-powered watches will work in tandem with users' compatible smartphones.


As we already knew, voice commands are integral to Android Wear. A simple "OK, Google" will initiate a variety of actions such as "Call me a car" or "Order a pizza." This type of voice control allows the interface to break free from the familiar tiled app screen. Likewise, devices powered by Android Wear can talk back to the user to a certain extent, offering up alerts pushed from the phone and contextual information delivered straight from the smartwatch.
