Star Wars creator George Lucas is opening a museum of narrative art in Chicago, which will focus on showing the evolution of visual storytelling.
Called the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the Chicago gallery will feature a collection that spans 150 years of visual storytelling — including Arthur Rackham's Badger's Winter Stories, an old MAD Magazine cover, and Industrial Light & Magic's Rango film. The beginning collection all comes from Lucas, but the museum plans on growing and expanding from acquiring more works.
“George Lucas has revolutionized the art of storytelling over the last four decades, and we are honored to be the recipient of this incredible legacy investment that will allow everyone to learn about and experience narrative arts,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “No other museum like this exists in the world, making it a tremendous educational, cultural, and job creation asset for all Chicagoans, as well as an unparalleled draw for international tourists.”
