Mark Millar deserves credit for being one of the key creators to lead the charge in moving away from company-owned projects to creator-owned work. But one thing I've always found a little disappointing is that so much of Millar's creator-owned work still involves superheroes in some form or another. But therein lies the appeal of Starlight. This latest Millar release foregoes capes and tights for spaceships and rayguns as it pays loving homage to pulp heroes like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. The series may wear its influences on its sleeve, but it does so proudly and unabashedly.
