It's hard to write a review of Ms. Marvel without getting personal, so bear with me as I relinquish the pretense of doing so. As a little girl of color, I didn't have very many heroes to relate to in comics and instead learned how to live vicariously through people who didn't look like me. I wish I'd had a book like Ms. Marvel back then. Growing up without the kind of aspirational representation so many take for granted has a significant impact on young minds, and writer G. Willow Wilson tackles that effect on Kamala Khan's psyche in Ms. Marvel #2 with a sensitive and acute understanding that makes for a powerful issue.
