Ray Donovan: "Fite Nite" Review

Warning: full spoilers for the episode follow.


The best stories are surprising, and yet have a sense of inevitability about them. As we watch, or listen to them unfold we feel a sense of surprise at each subsequent twist and turn in the tale, and yet all feels right, just as it should be. It's as if we say, "I wouldn't have guessed it, but now that it's happened, that feels like a preordained conclusion."


Less appealing is when events feel both predictable and illogical. How can you predict them if there is no logic? Because, as "Fite Nite" demonstrated, story cheats that break with the character's established nature in service of a thinly conceived plot twist are as easy to predict as they are lackluster and dissatisfying.
