It's almost hard to believe that both segments of Love Stories (to Die For) #1, a one-shot flip book, were written and conceived by the same person (Dirk Manning). The first story -- let's call it the A-side -- focuses on a type of love that's less obvious than the title would suggest, but that's about where the risk-taking ends. Bloodlust: Deceiver of the Gods brings familiar bonds to the forefront, while the B-side tale, Symptom of the Universe, explores the darker side of romantic love. The first is an underwhelming affair, while the second possesses a surprising level of depth and nuance.
