When Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was released in 2009, it did well at the box office, won over critics and became a staple in many parents’ movie collections. That was mainly because of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s script, which was full of quirky jokes and very energetic characters.
Those two writer/directors haven’t returned for this sequel, but, by again trusting the script with comedy writers, that quirky spirit remains.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up 60 seconds after the first film ended, with the small town of Swallow Falls having survived the giant food avalanche, or "foodalanche.” Scientist Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) was both the cause of and the solution to that problem, thanks to his FLDSMDFR machine, which turns water into food.
