This a version of Clayface I'm not immediately familiar with. Sure, this shape shifting criminal has never been portrayed as a genius, but he's pretty dumb in this issue. He's basically a big, lumbering idiot, which actually makes for an interesting story. There's some fun stuff in this issue. In the grand scheme of things, it's kinda pointless, but pointless is okay if you are having a good time, right?
John Layman does a solid job of making the dummy version of Clayface interesting. His motivations aren't exactly clear and his actions don't always make sense, but seeing him lose it every time somebody insults his intelligence is great. In the story department, the issue kind of just plays out like one big joke, which is both good and bad. Characters only act to serve the joke and their actions make little-to-no sense half the time. Still, it's funny and enjoyable, so the lack of characterization is forgivable.
