The 100: "Earth Kills" Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.


With both of us liking the pilot, my wife and I ended up marathoning the second through fourth episodes of The 100 when they arrived and it was "Earth Kills" -- written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain (Angel, The Shield) -- that certainly gave us our first "Whoa!" moment.


I'm speaking of course of the ending, and young Charlotte killing Wells in the way she did. The 100's producers had promised a lot of death on the series, but Jasper had miraculously survived the attack in the premiere. Would this show hold back when it came taking out any of the main characters? The answer turned out to be a resounding no, and the fact that it was this innocent looking kid who took out one of the central cast certainly was shocking. The build up to it was well done, as first Clarke and then Bellamy comforted Charlotte about the death of her parents; though Bellamy of course told her to “Slay her demons,” not knowing how she might interpret that or aim her anger at. Still, it made it seem like Charlotte would just be a new recurring characters - a representative of the younger members of the 100 we hadn't seen yet.
