Film critic Roger Ebert, who passed away last year at the age of 70, is being honored with an interactive, life-size statue outside the Illinois movie theater where his annual film festival is held.
According to the Associated Press, “Visitors to the central Illinois theater that hosts the annual 'Ebertfest' film festival he started now may feel like they saw him at the movies. A life-sized bronze statue of the longtime Chicago Sun-Times critic will be formally unveiled on Thursday outside of the Virginia Theatre in Champaign, which is next to Urbana, where Ebert grew up.”
The piece is described by Ebert’s wife as “interactive art” because it features two empty seats flanking the critic where visitors can sit and pose for photographs.
