Helix started promisingly enough, with a group of doctors from the Centers for Disease Control sent to a remote Arctic base to combat a mysterious virus, and getting way more than they bargained for. The show had a cool retro vibe and was really good at bringing the scary. Early episodes like "Single Strand" and "The White Room" were full of dreamy imagery and gory but wacky violence. If you embraced the show's campy style, you were in for a fun and freaky hour. A fantastic two-episode guest arc by Jeri Ryan served as a welcome distraction as the show started to slow down, but once her character was murdered, the show soon collapsed under the weight of a muddled and ridiculous mythology that was doled out too fast for the audience to swallow it.
