It’s not like Season 1 of The Americans played things - it’s still hard to top Elizabeth shooting and killing that poor security guard in terms of bluntly showing the shocking lengths these spies will go to in order to complete their mission. But Season 2 has been even more continually reminding us that these people, who we care about, understand and sympathize with, are living a life that requires them to do a lot of troubling things. And it’s not like we don’t see much of this in all kinds of spy stories - our hero using charm and pathos to get some poor sap to help them. it’s just here we go much deeper and into much more murky waters.
