Study: Violence in Video Games May Be Tied to Child Aggression

Violent video games may be directly related to violent thoughts and behavior in children, according to a new study from Singapore.


Reuters Health reported on the study, which revealed that children who play certain games are more likely to demonstrate violent tendencies, including hitting and shoving.


"Just like children's bodies can be affected by what they eat, their brains can be affected by what they repeatedly do," Iowa State University Professor Douglas A. Gentile told Reuters Health.


The study, which surveyed a total of 3,034 children and adolescents from twelve primary and secondary schools in Singapore, indicates that parental involvement with the children didn't make a difference in terms of the correlation between games and child behavior. But studies conducted in the United States indicated that parental involvement does make a difference.
