While the history of the Muppets dates back to the 1950s, it was the launch of The Muppet Show in 1976 that really made Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and the rest of the gang household names. Soon the big screen beckoned, and the 1979 release of The Muppet Movie would mark the start of many Muppet feature films, with the eighth, Muppets Most Wanted, opening this weekend.
With so many movies at this point, there have certainly been some highs and lows for Jim Henson's amazingly lovable creations and here, I'm taking a look back at all of them - from unfortunate missteps to some true screen gems.
Please note the focus is purely on Muppet theatrical films, so made-for-TV movies like The Muppets' Wizard of Oz are not included.
