15 minutes was all it took to sell me on Mario Golf: World Tour for the Nintendo 3DS. Now I know that a demo that brief is barely enough time to scratch the surface of a game, but World Tour’s fast-paced, energetic, and wildly entertaining local multiplayer mode immediately sunk its teeth into me.
Anyone who’s played a Hot Shots/Mario Golf/Powerstar Golf game knows what to expect here. The core gameplay loop of Mario Golf remains relatively unchanged. You can still choose between the same “three-click” approach to swinging your club, or being a big baby and having the game handle most of the grunt work automatically. The bottom screen acts as a touch-based menu, including giving you the option of choosing where you want to make contact with the ball. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but honestly, that’s fine with me. What’s important with World Tour is the local multiplayer mode.
