Daredevil #1 Review

The storytelling duo of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee are back for an all new first issue spectacular! This book has gained a lot of loyal fans throughout its run and many may be wondering why a new #1 issue was needed at all. Waid and Samnee answer that concern with a brand new adventure filled with new challenges, status quo shifts, and everything that you’ve come to expect and love from previous issues. New readers interested in jumping onboard will find this the perfect time to do so, while long time readers will feel right at home. Old and new readers alike should prepare themselves for fun and frenetic action, endearing character moments, and more than one mystery to ponder.


While established readers will find that this is a continuation of what came before, new readers will find this to be a very easy jumping-on point for the Man Without Fear. This is often a tough act to balance, but Waid handles it with cleverness and style. The origins of Daredevil are recounted for the benefit of new readers, but Waid uses this as an opportunity to segue into the new challenges for Matt Murdock. Waid tackles the inherent differences between San Francisco and New York City and presents them as challenges for our bedeviled hero. These difficulties give rise to a new role for on-again-off-again love interest and supporting character, Kristin McDuffie. Where once she was a playful adversary she now plays an integral role in the Californian adventures of Daredevil and Murdock.
