To me, there’s always been something magical about Zen Pinball, but never quite so magical as its new Dr. Strange-themed table – which will debut along with the PS4 version of Zen Pinball 2 next week. Despite being constrained by the four walls of a pinball table, it might capture the spirit of the character and his cosmic corner of the Marvel U better than any other digital adaptation to date.
Presentation continues to be the series’ strong suit, as every inch of this table is packed with details and little touches that pay homage to The Sorcerer Supreme. The rune-etched launcher spins and shudders with energy as it charges up, while cards with mystic symbols drawn on them swirl about the slingshots. Ramps and drop targets hum with whimsical energies when struck, underscoring Strange’s voice as a swears by the 12 moons of Munnopor. Not only does the table feel true to the character, it feels like the kind of device you’d find tucked away in his personal sanctuary.
