EA: Physical Game Sales Still Dwarf Digital

It looks like EA games will continue to be sold on physical discs for the foreseeable future. That's according to CFO Blake Jorgensen, who touched on the topic yesterday while speaking at the Credit Suisse 2013 Technology Conference.


Specifically, Jorgensen was asked when he predicted that one third of EA's games would be sold as downloads rather than on physical media. He said, "That's probably still a ways off. We're much lower than that today on full-game downloads."


Since every game for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 must be available in digital form the day it's released, the consoles are equipped to handle a disc-free world. However, the main problem rests in the technology, as some customers have slow Internet speeds, while game file sizes are growing. Jorgensen says, "I think a lot of the constraint there will continue to be bandwidth into people's homes."
