Shadowgate Rises From Adventure-Game Grave

Twenty-seven years ago, Shadowgate was known for two things: difficulty and death. The former was a byproduct of being a graphic adventure game; without the ease of looking up solutions on the Internet, finding your way through Castle Shadowgate's locked doors and myriad obstacles was an exercise in trial and error. The latter was a byproduct of the difficulty, but was far from graphic. Instead, as you explored Shadowgate's sights one still image at a time, you'd meet death due to enemies (dragons, sharks), traps (pits, portals), and even self-mutilation (absentmindedly choosing to stab or burn yourself), with text descriptions describing your fate before meeting a still image of the Grim Reaper.
