Riot Games is taking a new approach to deal with toxic players in League of Legends, Riot's lead designer of social systems Jeffrey Lin announced today on Twitter.
Lin later detailed the approach in a Reddit post, stating that starting today, Riot will begin testing a new form of detection and banning for "extreme toxicity" including intentional feeding or racism, starting with small tests on one server at a time.
This method will employ a new machine learning approach with Player Support, allowing them to target the most toxic of players. Those caught will be handed 14-day temporary bans swiftly, while the worst cases will see a permanent ban instantly. Those affected by this will be notified with the ban code 2500.
