This Week in the Nintendo eShop

We're on the cusp of "MegAugust" here on the eShop, as every week in August, a new Mega Man game will come out on Wii U Virtual Console. It started a day early with Mega Man Battle Network, the 2001 GBA RPG. Aside from that, this week has a few updated releases of games, including the 3DS remake of the 1992 Genesis game Steel Empire and a remastered version of the PC rhythm adventure Frederic: Resurrection of Music. Don't forget the sales, too, as Assassin's Creed IV is getting dropped to $30 on the Wii U eShop next week.


Mega Man Battle Network ($7.99)


Originally debutting in 2001 on Game Boy Advance, Mega Man Battle Network is another spinoff of the classic series but this time it's a tactical RPG. Set in a world where Mega Man is a computer program (dubbed MegaMan.EXE) and the villain is the WWW organization, Battle Network is pretty out there, but the real-time grid-based combat is engrossing, fusing the Mega Man style with an RPG format. The story's dumb, though. Real dumb.
