Married: Series Premiere Review

Advance Review: Sure, there's nothing terribly fresh or new about Married's take on the doldrums of advanced married life. In fact, nothing is ever going to skewer the institution, lampoon the idealized sitcom family, or address the topic of sexual ruts better than FOX's Married...With Children did back in the day. But that doesn't stop Married, from Andrew Gurland (The Last Exorcism, The Virginity Hit), from being funny.


Married is confident, dry, and low-key enough to provide both laughs and cringe-worthy awkwardness. It keeps you on your toes with regards to where it draws various lines of decency; sometimes there are boundaries and other times none. It doesn't necessarily go for "outrageous" like some other cable comedies. In fact, there's a certain indie laze about it that's quite appealing. A few moments even feel like something star (and Oscar-winner) Nat Faxon -- co-writer of The Descendants and The Way, Way Back -- might have written himself.
