Is Storm's New Solo Comic Worth a Read?

It's clear from Storm #1's opening, element defying pages that the book's titular heroine means business. The X-Men's resident weather wizard returns to the skies in her great new debut, spurred by the assured writer/artist team of Greg Pak and Victor Ibañez.


From street urchin to Headmistress to former queen, there's no mutant quite like Storm. Right at the start we're reminded of Ororo's awesome power as she deftly deflects an incoming tsunami. With tornados. Pak's Ororo is a veteran through and through, mature and comfortable with both her powers and the general reverence they receive. The writer presents her as a force with her head in the sky and her heart on the ground, her sense of conviction stronger than her belief in any rules or restrictions. Though a tenured presence, Ororo is still prone to rebellion, particularly in the face of injustice. It's this resolute stance that makes her so endearing to those in the comic world and out, and it's something Pak captures here quite nicely.
