Oscar winner Christian Bale is one of those rare actors lucky enough to start a career as a child and stick around Hollywood long enough to become a superstar as an adult. Bale first made a name for himself as a teenager thanks to movies like Empire of the Sun, but really caught the attention of audiences thanks to his wicked turn as yuppie serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. That opened the door for Bale to play Batman in the ultra-popular Dark Knight trilogy, and the rest is history.
Bale is having a great showing this winter. He plays two very different sorts of characters skirting the law in Scott Cooper's Out of the Furnace (released December 6) and David O.
