Doctor Who: "The Time of the Doctor" Review

It's been 1454 days, 43 episodes, and roughly 32 million Tumblr gifs since Matt Smith made his electrifying, offbeat and entertaining debut as the Eleventh Doctor – and finally his time on the TARDIS has come to an end.


Yet as all good Whovians know, a regeneration is never really, truly goodbye – just a new hello to a refreshed and intriguing incarnation of one of TV's most chameleonic and charismatic of characters.


So it was appropriate that 'The Time of the Doctor' was an exemplary exercise in celebrating the departure of a loved one. Sure, it had a few wonky issues (more on those later), but as a goodbye to Matt Smith it couldn't have been more heartfelt.


When a mysterious message ebbed out amongst the stars, the universe's dirtiest, and downright deadliest aliens flocked to the signal-emitting planet and towards the not-at-all-clunkily-named faux-English town of 'Christmas' (groan).
