Shia LaBeouf Apologizes for Plagiarizing Comic

Earlier this week, Shia LaBeouf released a new short film online that he wrote and directed called HowardCantour.com, starring comedian Jim Gaffigan as an internet film critic deeply preoccupied by his online presence.


According to Deadline, the short played in front of dozens of film festivals last year, including Cannes, but it wasn't until it hit the web that people began to notice some uncredited similarities between LaBeouf's film and artist Daniel Clowes' 2007 graphic novel Justin M. Damiano. Apparently the short (which has since been password-protected on Vimeo) included word-for-word dialogue and imagery lifted directly from Clowe's comic.
