Nikita: "Pay-Off" Review

Warning: full episode spoilers follow.


I had hoped for some actual pay-off from last week's set-up, but in a season full of "doubles", I should have perhaps guessed that "Pay-Off" was being used here more in regards to the "everyone has a price" theme of the episode and not because we were going to get any resolution this week. I suppose there was some pay-off since Birkhoff found out his dad was alive but that was a little quick for me--not that we have any choice this season, which is 66% over already. Egads.


Ramon (Simon Kassianides) made a welcome (though brutally brief) return, with new bionic legs courtesy of the Shop. There were some quick flashbacks to Season 2's terrific "Knightfall" that brought back wonderful Mikita memories, and also reminded me how much I preferred Michael's longer "rogue" hair. Ahem, anyhoo, the Michael versus Ramon sparring scenes were fantastic, both verbally and physically. Michael may have won the fight (RIP Ramon), but Ramon's taunting had a lot of truth to it. Nikita is the one who paid a steep price for Michael's new hand, and even though Michael never asked her to, he's never really taken responsibility for the decisions that put Nikita on that path. Ramon also called Michael out for being more of a follower than a leader - Ouch, but yeah, true. Michael took his own sweet time leaving Division for example.
