With consumers adopting Xbox One consoles and other Microsoft-branded products for the holidays, there's undoubtedly a growing audience who's concerned with privacy and government snooping.
Brad Smith, Executive Vice Present of Legal & Corporate Affairs with Microsoft, published a blog yesterday touching on those very points, in light of recent accusations of government surveillance that transcend less concerted efforts when it comes to online security.
According to Microsoft, collecting private customer data and what essentially amounts to spying constitutes an "advanced persistent threat" that lands directly within the realm of malware and such. As a result, Microsoft is firing back by beefing up their encryption across services like Office 365, Outlook.com, SkyDrive, and Windows Azure. Though the blog doesn't reference Xbox Live specifically, it's included among the umbrella of Microsoft's flagship services. The detailed privacy statement the company released earlier this year that clarified how the Kinect would collect user data is a nod to these newly austere security precuations as well.
