For better or worse, Sheldon Cooper is often viewed as the lifeblood of The Big Bang theory. He's tends to be the fan-favorite character, and actor Jim Parsons tends to get the best comedic material from week to week. Without Sheldon, the Big Bang Theory probably wouldn't have been very successful. And that idea was sort of at the heart of this week's holiday-themed episode. Taking a little inspiration from It's a Wonderful Life, the rest of the gang wondered how their lives might have played out if Sheldon weren't around. Would they still big a tight-knit unit?
Apparently not. As much as the show itself depends on Sheldon's sardonic with, so too do characters like Leonard and Penny owe their happiness to Sheldon. "The Cooper Extraction" did a good job of emphasizing the importance of Dr. Cooper, though it could have done more to take advantage of the premise.
