X-Factor #261 Review

X-Factor_261-674x1024 We've come to the penultimate issue of X-Factor, and still the series remains locked into the same piecemeal approach that has dominated this arc. This time around, Darwin and Monet are the stars of the show. The result is one of the stronger chapters of "The End of X-Factor," though this issue still manages to frustrate as often as it satisfies.


The main problem with issue #261 is that Peter David devotes too much time to Darwin and not enough to Monet. Both characters still have open conflicts that needed addressing, but given the limited space this series has left, Monet's should have been prioritized. She's the one that was recently killed and brought back to life by the new lord of Hell. Instead, David focuses much of his attention on Darwin's quest to track down Hela in Las Vegas and give up his deathly powers. Luckily, once the two characters reconnect, the issue is able to offer some enjoyable and heartfelt interaction. The duo finally confront the romantic tension between them and the lingering fallout of Monet's brush with death. This issue doesn't leave them in a completely satisfying place, emotionally, but such is the case with most of these recent one-shot issues.
