We don't normally cover old TV shows beginning to air on a different outlet here at IGN TV, but there are exceptions - and The Spectacular Spider-Man is one such exception, as the series begins airing from the start on the Vortexx programming block on The CW this weekend.
While it only lasted for two seasons and 26 episodes, from 2008-2009, The Spectacular Spider-Man was something special. The men behind the show, Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, Young Justice and the upcoming Star Wars Rebels) and Victor Cook (Hellboy Animated, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated), are huge Spider-Man fans themselves, which was obvious watching the episodes they created. The series drew from many previous interpretations of Spider-Man, including the Ultimate comic books and the Sam Raimi films. Yet its core was powered by the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko comics that started it all, with 1960s-specific elements like the Master Planner and Patch for hardcore fans to appreciate and major villains like Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus used in terrific, exciting ways.
