Futurlab has announced Velocity 2X for PS4 and PlayStation Vita after Sony's press conference at Gamescom in Cologne.
The original Velocity (and its updated re-release, Velocity Ultra) is a creative, intelligent and addictive vertical shooter that asks as much of your brain as it does of your reflexes, putting you in charge of a teleporting ship called the Quarp Jet. It was like a mix of Metroid and Space Invaders - a comparison that Velocity 2X evokes even more strongly, as it lets you actually land the ship and directly control the plot in 2D puzzle-platforming sections.
Like the original Velocity, Velocity 2X will be available as a digital download, and it will be playable on both PS4 and PS Vita. It's dropped the lo-fi retro stylings of the original in favour of a new, more modern art style, and it's looking pretty great.
