Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...
The "underground fighting ring" story has been done to death on TV. Seems like most every show has their version of it. And, yes, on Under the Dome, it's taken all of nine days of isolation for the citizenry of Chester's Mill to form their own Thunderdome inside the old cement factory. But despite this worn-out premise, "Let the Games Begin" wasn't a bad episode. It wasn't the most enthralling chapter, but it moved several chess pieces around and advanced the various town mini-dramas along in mostly interesting ways.
The best part of the episode was that it had Barbie actively turn on Max, not caring if Julia found out the truth about him killing her husband. Something that I actually brought up in last week's review. Max has become way too much of a pain for Barbie to care about Julia finding out his dark secret. So it was worth the risk of losing her if it meant thwarting Max and cutting the puppet strings she had dangling over his head. Sure, Julia forgiving Barbie felt like an easy way out, but I accept it because I certainly didn't want to go through the same drama we saw when she initially found out that he was sent to collect money from Peter. And this episode went through the trouble of actually having Julia figure out why Peter died - how he wanted Barbie to kill him so that Julia could cash in on a life insurance policy.
