It’s been a good year for Disney platformers, and now, a balanced one. First there was Duck Tales Remastered for NES owners, and now Megadrive/Genesis players get their own trip back in time with Castle of Illusion. Where Duck Tales was a relatively straight remake though, Sega’s approach is more of a reimagining - one that retreads much of the original game, but is happy to borrow ideas from games released this side of 1990 instead of just wearing their graphics. It’s not the most exciting remake of a game that’s remembered more fondly than its actual impact has ever really justified, but nor is it just a quickly banged out cash-in on 16-bit nostalgia.
