Bravely Default's Western Release Based on 'For the Sequel'

The version of 3DS RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy coming to western markets is based on the game's enhanced version being developed for Japan.


This welcome news comes courtesy of the game's official Twitter account, which tweeted, "The overseas edition is based on 'for the sequel.'" Despite the name, For the Sequel is not a sequel to Bravely Default, but is instead an enhanced version of the game announced in late August and scheduled for release in Japan on December 5. It includes refinements to the battle system, a redesigned user interface, multiple save slots, and other changes.


It's excellent news that this is the version that fans in the West will be getting their hands on. After being made to wait for word on a localization in the first place -- the game launched in Japan last October, but it wasn't until a Nintendo Direct in April that a localized version was announced for North America and Europe -- it would have been frustrating to continue waiting for a version of a game that will be rendered inferior by a release in Japan this December.
