Between IDW's rebooted takes on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joe and DC's recent revival of Masters of the Universe, '80s nostalgia is alive and thriving in the comics industry. And with their wide assortment of licensed properties, Dynamite Entertainment is no stranger to the '80s either. In 2011 they acquired the Voltron license and debuted two new comics starring the giant robot defender and the five pilots who control him.
Today Dynamite revealed that they've added a second '80s franchise built around the idea of heroes piloting transformable robot weapons. We're talking about Robotech, of course. For those not up on their classic American anime adaptations, Robotech was a series compiled from footage from three different anime -- Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Super Dimension Century Southern Cross. The series focused on several generations of pilots who salvaged alien technology and used it to defend the planet from further alien attacks. Dynamite has acquired the Robotech rights through a partnership with DC Comics and Harmony Gold USA.
